I'm going to get a lot of shit for this next post, but fuck it. Leave Weezer alone. Most importantly, leave Rivers Cuomo alone. I remember when I was young and that classic Buddy Holly video directed by Spike Jonze was controlling MTV. I remember singing loudly at seven years old with my disc-man on my lap, "If you want to destroy my sweater!" with my mother looking on like she had given birth to a complete retart. I remember the beautiful ending to a masterpiece album by the name of 'Only in Dreams'.
I also remember the second CD. It was called 'Pinkerton'. It was a sophomore slump commercially and a disapointment to many; to most the album was a personal diary reading with music in the background. Trashed by critics, 'Pinkerton' shut up Rivers and Weezer for nearly five whole years. Well, I got older and they came back with 'Hash Pipe' off of the Green Album and everyone loved them again. And then people went back to even say that Pinkerton was an overlooked masterpiece. The music journalists of this country hated on Rivers for a CD that is now today treasured as a 'masterpiece'. The same CD that almost destroyed his career. Talk about a mind fuck.
So when people say that he abandoned his original fans with Maldroit, Make Believe, The Red Album, and now Raditude you have to wonder how much this guy can humanly take. I personally love EVERY Weezer album. Some are better than others, but not one is unlistenable. And to a certain degree they're all different. When you're sevens albums into you're career and you want to mix things up and work with Lil' Wayne go for it. Let Rivers do it too. He has post out his personal recordings for the fans of the early 90's, and if that's not enough he continues to put on amazing performences which ALWAYS contain songs from Blue and Pink. Let the guy experiment, fuck around, and be happy. Stop trying to put down one of the best bands of our generation. Stop hating.
Rock on Rivers.
